Climate projections grant program
Applications for the grant program to develop a new set of fine-scale climate projections for Tasmania are now closed.
The University of Tasmania’s Climate Futures Research Group has been appointed to develop a new set of fine-scale climate projections for Tasmania. Outputs are expected in mid-2027.
Aims of the grant program
The $1.8 million grant program aims to produce
- fine‑scale resolution climate projections data for Tasmania
- a range of tailored interpretive tools designed to communicate the projected climate impacts for Tasmania, and help stakeholders understand and apply the new climate projections.
The climate projections funded through this grant will use global climate model data produced as part of the sixth Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6).
The data produced will cover the entirety of Tasmania, including the Bass Strait islands and immediately surrounding oceans, at a scale that is convection permitting (4 kilometres or less) to account for Tasmania’s mountainous topography.
