Draft Government Operations Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan

Consultation on the draft government operations plan closed on Monday 2 March 2026.

The draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan was developed to guide feedback on priority areas and future opportunities for Tasmanian Government operations. We consulted with Tasmanian Government agencies to identify the priority areas and future opportunities.

Why are we developing the plan?

Tasmania’s climate change legislation requires the government to develop sector‑based emissions reduction and resilience plans. Tasmania’s first five-year emissions reduction and resilience plans for each sector were published in late 2024.

The government has committed to prepare a plan for Tasmanian Government operations that will comply with the Act requirements.

What are Tasmanian Government operations?

For the purpose of the draft plan, Tasmanian Government operations are the delivery of outputs to the Tasmanian community through agencies. The outputs of agencies are diverse, but include services delivered to the public through schools and hospitals, public safety and emergency response, policy advice to government, and the delivery of programs to benefit the community and businesses. However, agencies have common functions (such as transport, energy and waste) where we can make changes to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate‑related risks.

What happens after consultation?

The Climate Change Office in ReCFIT manages the consultation process and will produce the final plan. Submissions to the draft plan will be published on this website (www.recfit.tas.gov.au).

A workshop will be held with Tasmanian government agency representatives to develop the final plan. The final plan will be informed by feedback provided on the draft plan.

The final plan is expected to be prepared by mid‑2026.
