Draft Government Operations Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan
Have your say on the draft government operations plan
A draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan has been developed to help you provide feedback on priority areas and future opportunities for Tasmanian Government operations. We consulted with Tasmanian Government agencies to identify the priority areas and future opportunities.
We want to hear from you about the draft plan. We encourage you to read the draft plan before you make a submission. The consultation questions will help you provide relevant feedback, so we can develop the final version of the plan.
Written submissions close on Monday 2 March 2026.
You can make a submission by writing to us or by completing the online form.
- Email: climatechange@recfit.tas.gov.au
- Post: Climate Change Office, ReCFIT, Department of State Growth, GPO Box 536 HOBART TAS 7001

Consultation questions
- How can we build on the work already underway to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate related risks in Tasmanian Government operations?
- What future opportunities do you think will have the most impact?
- Are there any priorities or future opportunities missing from this draft plan?
- Are there other ways government agencies can work together, or with the public, to reduce emissions and build resilience in Tasmanian Government operations?

Why are we developing the plan?
Tasmania’s climate change legislation requires the government to develop sector‑based Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plans. Tasmania’s first five-year Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plans for each sector were published in late 2024.
The government has committed to prepare a plan for Tasmanian Government operations that will comply with the Act requirements.
What are Tasmanian Government operations?
For the purpose of the draft plan, Tasmanian Government operations are the delivery of outputs to the Tasmanian community through agencies. The outputs of agencies are diverse, but include services delivered to the public through schools and hospitals, public safety and emergency response, policy advice to government, and the delivery of programs to benefit the community and businesses. However, agencies have common functions (such as transport, energy and waste) where we can make changes to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate‑related risks.
What happens after consultation?
The Climate Change Office in ReCFIT will manage the consultation process and produce the final plan.
A workshop will be held with Tasmanian government agency representatives to develop the final plan. The final plan will be informed by feedback provided on the draft plan.
The final plan is expected to be prepared by mid‑2026.
